Elena Cassinelli serves as a business development associate within Southern Power’s Origination and Acquisitions team. Elena is responsible for preparing and maintaining deal status summaries and presentations, tracking and supporting origination progress, customer care efforts and due diligence, identifying origination opportunities and supporting negotiations and developments of Power Purchase Agreements to support new generation and remarketing.
Elena joined Southern Company Services in 2022 as a supply chain management intern where she supported supply chain operations, engaged in contract negotiations and compliance activities and contributed to project management. She then served as a legal extern at Shipt Inc., where she was responsible for conducting legal research and curating documents to support strategic business initiatives as well as participating in negotiations, depositions and strategy meetings.
In her most recent role at Southern Power as a real estate specialist, she was responsible for managing Southern Power’s real estate portfolio, negotiating real estate transactions and ensuring that agreement terms meet company standards.
Elena earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Samford University.

Where do you call home? I’m originally from Cincinnati, OH, but I have lived in Alabama since 2016 and Birmingham since 2020.
What are your hobbies? I love to teach/take Pilates, take long walks with my dogs, travel and serve in my community through various non-profits.
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? Paris, France – hands down! The Eiffel Tower and Versailles are hard to beat. I hope to go back ASAP!
Favorite food? Seafood or Chips and Queso.
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Clean water purification tool, Hammock with mosquito net (Mosquitos love me) and My dogs (I have two Golden Retrievers – Kinley and Comet)
Tell us something we might not know about you. I’m related to one of the first United States presidents.
What is the last book you read? The Well-Watered Woman by Gretchen Saffles.
Tell us something on your bucket list. Visiting Jackson Hole, WY and horseback riding in the summer!
What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? A beautiful home with farmland to start an animal sanctuary for rescue dogs, cats, horses, etc.
What is your biggest pet peeve? When people don’t know the difference between, they’re, their, and there.
Do you have a hidden talent? Being able to navigate to a place again that I’ve only been to once without a map or directions.
What are you currently watching? Only Murders in the Building – Martin Short and Steve Martin crack me up!
