Alex works as a Manager of Acquisitions, responsible for maintaining and expanding project developer relationships across the U.S. to execute on Southern Power’s growth strategy of acquiring new generating assets across all renewable, natural gas and storage technologies.
Before joining the Business Development team, Alex worked in Southern Power’s Financial Structuring group where he gained valuable experience in financial structuring, economic evaluation, and financial analysis of energy acquisitions. In this role, he was instrumental in the successful acquisitions of two utility-scale solar projects that aligned with Southern Power’s strategic growth objectives. Additionally, Alex performed financial evaluations for potential investments in over 10 GW of both renewable and thermal generating assets. Prior to joining Southern Power, Alex was in the chlor-alkali and specialty chemical industries where he held various leadership roles in operations, project management, engineering management and engineering consulting.
Alex is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a minor in business engineering technology from Auburn University. He also earned an MBA with a specialization in finance from Loyola University New Orleans.
Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Alex and his wife Mary Margaret have two children, Levi and Marlo.

Where do you call home? Born and raised in Birmingham, Ala.
What are your hobbies? Spending time with family and friends, travel, Auburn University sports, and shooting hoops.
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? A two-week Mediterranean cruise with my wife, where we got to spend time in multiple cities across Spain, France, Italy, Greece, and Croatia.
Favorite food? Hard to beat steak and chicken fajitas and queso dip with fresh tortilla chips. Add a Dr Pepper for all 23 flavors.
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Fire starter kit, fish net, and a knife set.
Tell us something we might not know about you. Many people find it surprising that I excelled more in soccer than basketball, given my height.
What is the last book you read? Prayer by Tim Keller.
Tell us something on your bucket list. Attend a World Cup game or an English Premier League game (hopefully to see my favorite team, Chelsea).
What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? That is a close tie between a beach house or a megayacht.
What is your biggest pet peeve? Bad or careless drivers on the roadways.
Do you have a hidden talent? I can make a decent Texas-style brisket on the smoker.
What are you currently watching on Netflix? Interstellar in IMAX (10th anniversary re-release) was the latest movie I watched in theaters. For TV, we just wrapped up season 1 of Landman.
