Dana Claburn is senior vice president and senior production officer of Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company.
Southern Power is among the largest wholesale energy providers in the United States, meeting the electricity needs of municipalities, electric cooperatives, investor-owned utilities and other energy customers.
In this position, Claburn oversees the operations of more than 13,000 megawatts of natural gas, solar, wind and battery storage generating capacity across the United States, as well as the project development, planning, execution and construction of Southern Power projects across all U.S. wholesale power markets.
Claburn began her career in Huntsville, Alabama, with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Three years later, Claburn joined Southern Company’s Engineering and Construction Services Organization. Over the last 30 years, she has worked in a variety of organizations within Southern Company including engineering, system planning, generation development, fuels, finance, power plant operations and human resources.
Claburn completed the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellows Program, which included executive education sessions at Harvard Business School and INSEAD. She now serves on the board of the Alabama chapter of the International Women’s Forum. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Easter Seals of the Greater Birmingham area and volunteered with numerous local organizations including Junior Achievement, iCan Girls in Engineering and United Way. Dana also serves as the executive sponsor for Southern Company Operations’ VetNet employee resource group, a group dedicated to helping integrate employee veterans into the company and support their job performance and career success.
Claburn holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Samford University.
