Southern Power
Phillip Adams serves as the head of mergers and acquisitions for Southern Power’s acquisitions team, executing Southern Power’s growth strategy by leading a team responsible for acquiring generation projects at various stages across the United States.
Phillip joined Southern Power in 2010 and has held roles in asset management, project development and business development. In his time with acquisitions, he has led or supported over 2.3 GWs and $4.3B worth of renewable energy transactions. Prior to working at Southern Power, he spent four years at Southern Natural Gas Company in various roles including business development, operations and capital project management.
Currently, his team’s focus is on acquiring late-stage renewable and energy storage projects across the United States. Phillip and his team spend a lot of time reviewing projects of every size and location and increasing our industry reach and knowledge.
Phillip earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama and received an MBA from the University of Alabama Birmingham.
Phillip lives with his wife, McCauley, and two daughters, Margaret and Liddy, in Birmingham, Alabama. In his free time, when not trying to parent a six-year-old and toddler, he enjoys playing golf, traveling and is an active member of his church.
Where do you call home? I grew up and live in Birmingham, Alabama.
What is your current role at Southern Power? I lead the mergers and acquisitions team which is responsible for acquiring generation facilities across the U.S.
What are your hobbies? I love golf and traveling.
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? My wife and I have traveled a lot, but my favorite trip was a five-country road trip through Europe including stops in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. In Germany, we were able to find the childhood home of my great-great-great grandfather in a small wine-making town on the Rhine.
Favorite food. Pizza
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Kindle, golf clubs and water.
Tell us something we might not know about you. I played over 500,000 hands of poker in college.

What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? A four-week golf trip through Scotland, England and Ireland
What is your biggest pet peeve? People who merge onto the interstate at a slow speed
